Lenovo Group, the world’s largest personal computer (PC) maker, is ramping up its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts in Hong Kong, where companies are showing a strong willingness to embrace AI technology.

According to a recent survey conducted by Lenovo, 95% of corporate chief information officers (CIOs) in Hong Kong reported that their budget requests for AI initiatives were being met or exceeded. Additionally, 44% of respondents stated that they have more AI resources than needed. This data was shared at Lenovo’s annual Tech World event held in Hong Kong.

The survey also revealed that 9 out of 10 Hong Kong CIOs believe they have the necessary talent to adopt AI technology. Lenovo plans to release a full report on these findings later this year.

Linda Yao, chief operating officer and head of strategy at Lenovo Solutions & Services Group, highlighted Hong Kong’s readiness to embrace AI, attributing it to the city’s advanced social-economic environment. Yao noted that Hong Kong organizations have experience with both Western and Eastern tech stacks, contributing to their higher technology maturity.

In line with its AI focus, Lenovo introduced new enterprise-facing AI solutions for Hong Kong companies, including Care of One, a workplace management platform that utilizes AI to optimize software and hardware resources for employees. The tech giant also announced a collaboration with Microsoft to offer an AI-powered cybersecurity solution tailored for Hong Kong businesses.

Lenovo’s commitment to Hong Kong’s tech ecosystem is evident through its investments of over HK$1 billion (US$128 million) in the city over the past five years. The company has partnered with the Hong Kong government’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES) to drive innovation and technology growth in the region.

As the global PC industry increasingly integrates AI into products and services, Lenovo is rolling out its first-generation AI PCs and aims to double its market share in AI servers this year. Despite Hong Kong companies’ eagerness to adopt AI, Lenovo’s survey found that only 55% of CIOs feel adequately prepared to scale up AI due to concerns around security, speed to market, and unconscious bias.

Looking ahead, Lenovo recognizes the importance of enhancing leadership understanding of AI technologies within organizations to drive successful AI implementation and adoption in Hong Kong.
