**Kohima Law College Celebrates World Consumer Rights Day with Focus on AI**

In a unique celebration of World Consumer Rights Day, the Kohima Law College partnered with the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) to shed light on the theme of “Fair and Responsible AI for Consumers.” The event saw over 150 law students coming together, dressed in traditional attire to signify their commitment to upholding consumer rights and fighting against unfair practices by traders.

**Emphasis on Ethical AI Development**

NVCO President and Assistant Professor Kezhokhoto Savi emphasized the importance of ethically developing and utilizing AI systems. He highlighted the need for consumer protection mechanisms to evolve with technological advancements, pointing out the significant role of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, in strengthening consumer rights.

**Key Provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019**

Savi outlined the key provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which include the establishment of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) and measures to tackle issues like product liability and misleading advertisements. He stressed the importance of consumer education and awareness, listing the fundamental rights of consumers such as protection from hazardous goods, access to information, freedom of choice, participation in decision-making processes, avenues for redressal, and consumer education.

**Interactive Sessions and Skits**

The event featured interactive sessions and a skit performed by final year LLB students, showcasing a scenario where consumers sought redressal for purchasing expired goods. Presentations on food safety and security were also delivered by students, highlighting relevant legislation in the field.
